MORE THAN READY'S PERFECTLY READY TO ROAR

PERFECTLY Ready colt Fready Cougar will be out to bank some valuable prizemoney for a future tilt at the Karaka Million when he debuts in Australasia's first two-year-old race of the season at Wanganui on Saturday.

The John Bary-trained youngster lines-up in this weekend's 92.8 MORE FM (1200m) after scoring an easy win in a 400m official jump-out at Hastings.

Fready Cougar, one of two early season 2yo trial winners by Perfectly Ready, was purchased for $45,000 at the New Zealand Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale in January from Nick and Ann-Marie King's Brighthill Farm draft.

Given that he was sold during the Karaka sales series, Fready Cougar is eligible for a number of rich bonuses including the Karaka Million run at Ellerslie next January.

"Another Perfectly Ready won the first barrier trial held in Australia or New Zealand a month ago and now he stands a very good chance of winning the region's first two-year-old race,'' Vinery's Conor Phelan said.

ANOTHER MILESTONE LOOMS FOR TESTA

TESTA Rossa will be credited with his third new three-year-old stakeswinner this season should Novacastrian colt Testarhythm salute in Saturday's AJC Ming Dynasty Handicap (1400m).

The Darren Smith-trained galloper arrives at headquarters after a 2 1/2-lens third behind subsequent Golden Rose runner-up Squamosa in the Run to the Rose (1300m) on August 14.

"The 1400m around Randwick should suit the horse because looks to have enough gate speed to take up a handy position in running,'' Vinery's Conor Phelan commented.

"Saturday will be his third run this time in and he's had no problems with the wet tracks in either of those two which might come in handy if the rain arrives.''

Should he be successful in the Ming Dynasty, Testarhythm is set to become the 30th individual stakeswinner for his sire and his third in as many weeks.

"Testa Rossa's three-year-old are on fire at the moment,'' Phelan says,''Panipique beat Crystal Lily in the Listed Quezette and we saw Sistine Angel beat the boys to win the Group 3 McNeil last Saturday.''

"YOU'VE JUST SEEN THE EPSOM WINNER" - GAI

The Cox Plate dream is alive for connections of More Than Ready mare More Joyous who defied a wide barrier and big weight to score a brilliant first-up win at Rosehill.

A bigger, stronger More Joyous was eased back in the field by Nash Rawiller and the Group One winner came with a barnstorming finish to claim Saturday's Listed Sheraco Stakes (1100m).
Matthew Toogood reported a delighted owner John Singleton declared the Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley was the main mission for the four-year-old this spring.

"That was unbelievable,'' Singleton said.
"This is the preparation for her. She hasn't lost any weight, I think she put on 100 kilos in her spell, and by giving her such an easy run as a three-year-old I think she'll go on with it.
"The Cox Plate is the objective and if I'm proven wrong she can come back and be a Lightning (Stakes) horse.''

More Joyous, returning to the races for the first time since early March, lumped 59kg and jumped from barrier 10 in the field of 11.
Rawiller was content to have More Joyous ($2 fav) sitting eighth, one off the fence, and the mare produced an outstanding turn of foot in the straight to defeat Girl Hussler ($13) by a length with Sister Madly ($6) three-quarters of a length away third.
While the Cox Plate in late October is in the sights of More Joyous' connections, a Group One target in Sydney awaits before the mare heads to Melbourne.

Trainer Gai Waterhouse believes the Epsom Handicap (1600m) at Randwick is at More Joyous' mercy.
''She's an outstanding mare, you've just seen the Epsom winner in my opinion,'' Waterhouse said.
''She's got blistering speed, she's got the most sensational turn of foot and she's just on the improve.
''Whatever she's done today there's so much improvement I can't tell you.''

The Sheraco Stakes 12 months ago was the last time More Joyous tasted defeat.
A first-up third in that race was followed by wins in the Tea Rose Stakes and Flight Stakes, then she returned in the autumn to win the Light Fingers Stakes and Surround Stakes.

Rawiller said Saturday's win was probably the best More Joyous had ever gone first-up.
''She was awesome today and did it very easy,'' Rawiller said.
''I think she's the best we've had her. She's a lot stronger than last preparation and I really think she's there to go on with it now.''

SISTINE ANGEL ANOTHER TESTA STAKESWINNER

TESTA Rossa's recent run of stakeswinners for Vinery has gathered even more momentum after filly Sistine Angel powered past her rivals in a stunning last to first effort in today's MRC H.D.F McNeil Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield.

The last stakes race set aside for 3YO's at the Heath saw the Peter Moody trained Panipique become Testa Rossa's 28th individual stakeswinner when handing reigning Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily a rare defeat in the Quezette Stakes.

"Testa Rossa is having a great run at present, particularly with his 3YO's which are the first crop of Testa's bred at Vinery,'' the stud's Conor Phelan said.

Today's win was the first major for Andrew Noblet's Sistine Angel who was placed in the Listed MRC Blue Sapphire Stakes (1200m) at only her second start.

Noblet paid $60,000 for Sistine Angel at the 2009 Magic Millions Sale in Perth.

Concieved, born and reared at Vinery, Sistine Angel is out of Famous Painter, a Peintre Celebre daughter of former speed mare Rancheetah, a stakeswinner herself and dam of Group Two winner Gallopini and the Maribyrnong Trial winner, Land Speed Record.

Sistine Angel earned black type as a two-year-old when she ran third in the Blue Sapphire Stakes.

First up as a three-year-old today, Sistine Angel displayed a brilliant turn of foot to come from last and win the McNeil Stakes.

"It was a hard task first up," Noblet said. "She's come back from her last preparation really well and to do that first up is a great effort."

She's come back pretty well. She's got a bit of improvement in her."

"The Thousand Guineas is her main aim."

First foals and the return of Myboycharlie

FORMER Group One winning two-year-old Myboycharlie returned home to Vinery on Wednesday morning to a growing enthusiasm for his first crop foals.

Named as French Champion 2YO of 2008, Myboycharlie was the last of Vinery's three shuttle sires to arrive at the Scone nursery in time to begin serving on September 1.

"We've not seen Myboycharlie since he was here last season but you can see what a change there has been in the horse even in that time,'' Vinery Stud's Adam White said.
"He has let down into a lovely horse which would suggest that he enjoys being a stallion and copes well with the work rate and the travelling."

And it's just as well given that Myboycharlie's book will certainly exceed last season's book of 94.
"We were very pleased to see him cover so many mares last season in light of the fact that he wasn't announced as joining the Vinery roster until the very eve of the season,'' says White.

Myboycharlie made an immediate impact last year proving to be an exceptionally fertile horse, says White.

"Any potential issue in that regard was put to rest quickly and he subsequently returned 98 percent of mare's in foal from his inital Northern Hemisphere season at the English National Stud. That really is quite a phenomenal figure."

Myboycharlie's return to Vinery coincides with the birth of his first (Southern Hemisphere) foals.
"Right from the beginning, we've heard good things about his foals,"' White said.
"They are certainly throwing to type. They are strong bodied foals with good bone that look like they'd be early runners like Myboycharlie was himself.
"A number of breeders and farms who've foaled a Myboycharlie already this year have booked back to the stallion on the strength of those foals and there is no greater compliment than that.''

Myboycharlie is certain to do his bit to continue the extraordinary success of the Danehill-line here and in Europe.
''He was the first Group One winner for his sire, Danetime, who was making an enormous impact with Group One winners in both hemispheres before his untimely death,'' White said.

Myboycharlie's own female line is full of quality and very familiar to Australian breeders given the presence of the imported mare Snowdrift (FR) whose offspring include Golden Slipper placegetter Portillo and the successful sires Snowland and Snippetson.

PRIVATE LABEL SPRINGS INTO ACTION

BRILLIANT Benicio three-year-old Private Label served notice that he could be a force this spring after posting a barnstorming win in today's AJC Moore Park Handicap (1550m) at Kensington.

The John O'Shea trained galloper finished too strongly for his rivals in a small but strong field which was made up of a number of other spring carnival aspirants.
Private Label's latest triumph comes hot on the heels of his Warwick Farm victory last month where he swept past the others to score an eye-catching win at only his third race start.

''He is a tough horse and I think everyone has underestimated his ability,'' winning jockey Tommy Berry told TVN.
''I hit the front at the 200m which is a little bit too early but he exploded and let down a lot quicker than I thought he would against that class of horse, so I think he's better than we think.
''He's still very green, like I said I hit the front at the 200m and he looked around the whole last 200m and still held off them quite easily.''

Private Label is a member of Benicio's first-crop which has excelled as a group to coincide with the new season. Private Label's victory is the second this week for Benicio's first crop following White Light's success on Monday.

A $40,000 Benicio weanling, White Lights proved too strong for her dozen rivals in the 1150m sprint despite her wide alley and early interference.
The Kris Lees trained filly was purchased by Neil Jenkinson from Vinery's 2008 National Sale draft at the Gold Coast as is already repaying her owners faith.

''We have always predicted that they would come into their own as late-two-year olds and three-year-olds, which as Private Label and others prove, is now happening,'' Vinery's Conor Phelan said.

NEWCASTLE COLT RACKS UP A DOUBLE

NEWCASTLE colt Double Five pocketed a $5000 BOBS bonus on top of his $10,400 purse after scoring another impressive first-up win at Gosford yesterday.

The Rodney Ollerton trained Dubleo colt proved much too good for his rivals over 1000m despite starting from the outside alley in the field of 10.
The win was Double Five's second in succession having run out an impressive 1.3-lens winner at Scone in April before being tipped out.

Double Five was bred by Vinery Stud and sold for $20,000 at the Australian Select Weanling Sale in 2008.

He is one Dubleo's burgeoning tally of 26 individual winners here in Australia from only two crops of racing age. The impact of first crop winners Dubleanny and Skateboard etc has been such that Dubleo will cover his largest book this season at a fee of only $4,400 inc GST.

LIGHT SHINES IN HUNTER

White Lights, by More Than Ready's son Benicio broke her maiden at only her second career start at Cessnock yesterday for trainer Kris Lees.

A $40,000 weanling, White Lights proved too strong for her dozen rivals in the 1150m sprint despite her wide alley.
The Novacastrian was purchased by Neil Jenkinson from Vinery's 2008 National Sale draft at the Gold Coast as is already repaying her owners faith.

White Lights is a daughter of the Christmas Tree mare, Faerie Lights, and from the immediate family of Winter's Dance - dam of Dancing Dynamite and Nimble Feat.

"Benicio's first crop have just turned three a matter of a few weeks ago and already he's posted some very impressive winners,'' Vinery's Conor Phelan said.

One of Benicio's most promising 3YO's, Private Label, is scheduled to contest tomorrow's small but select AJC Moore Park Handicap (1550m) at Kensington.
"He couldn't have been more impressive winning last start finishing all over the top of them at Warwick Farm. By Benicio, you would imagine he'll be suited by the extra distance - he's a very smart horse."

BIG BROWN, BRUNETTES, AND BLUE TONGUES

AMERICAN idol Big Brown was afforded all the attention that his superstar status deserves with a round of media commitments on Monday to rival Julia Gillard and Tony Abbott.

The 2010 Vinery recruit was paraded at Inglis' Newmarket complex for the first time in Australia in front of upwards of 200 invited guests and a swag of media.
Big Brown's morning began with an appearance on Nine's Today Show - he even made the business section of Sydney's Daily Telegraph.
On a perfect, if not a little windy, winter's day, Big Brown handled all the fuss and attention with ease, no wonder given he is one of the most photographed horses in the world.

''Big Brown has such a fantastic temperament and I think you saw today that nothing really bothers him,'' Vinery Stud's Adam White said.
''It was very windy and there were a lot of people gathered closely around him, cameras going off everywhere, but he just took it all in his stride."

Champion trainer Gai Waterhouse agreed.

''He's been standing and walking around for 45 minutes but he hasn't even turned a hair,'' she said.

''He is a tall horse and very athletic,'' she said,'' and I really like his foals, you can see that they are a lot like him.''

White reported that Big Brown arrived at Vinery on Monday afternoon and has settled into his new surrounds quickly.

"He's done plenty of travelling and spent some considerable time in quarantine. He looks fantastic and has little time to settle in with his first scheduled parade this morning at 10am."

"He is unquestionably one of the greatest racehorse's ever to shuttle to Australia. His performances on all surfaces speak for themselves. His confirmation and temperament are now on show for all to see and he is very hard to fault. Big Brown is well suited to Australian racing and conditions and has a big future ahead."

A DAY TO REMEMBER FOR TESTA

VINERY Stud resident Testa Rossa enjoyed one of his most productive days in an illustrious career registering three stakes performers within hours including his 28th individual stakeswinner.

Melbourne filly Panipique ($15) lowered the boom on odd-son favourite and reigning Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily ($1.70) winning today's Listed MRC Quezette Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield for trainer Peter Moody and prominent Scone owner/breeder Stuart Ramsey.

''She's worked with (stablemate) Curtana (a recent impressive Caulfield winner) at Caulfield on Tuesday morning and in fairness has always been able to (go with her),'' Moody told AAP.
''So that gave us a good feeling until you see a Golden Slipper winner in the race.''
Ridden by Luke Nolen, Panipique settled fifth on the inside of Crystal Lily and that pair drew away to fight out the finish with Panipique forging clear late to score by three-quarters of a length.

Moody has nominated the Group two VRC Danehill Stakes (1200m) as Panipique's immediate goal on her way to the Group One MRC One Thousand Guineas (1600m) later in the spring.

Forty minutes later at the Heath, Warrnambool gelding Nicastro staged a gritty performance to hold down third in the Listed MRC 65th Anniversary End of WWII Stakes (1500m) in a highly competitive affair.
The Jarrod McClean trained 4YO drew wide and chased tearaway leader Avenue in a break neck pace yet was able to maintain his ground despite the exhaustive effort.

The icing on the cake so far as Testa Rossa's magnificent day is concerned came in Sydney with the Group Three STC Run to the Rose (1300m).
Novacastrian colt Testarhythm heads into Saturday week's Group One STC Golden Rose (1400m) as one of the live chances after taking third in today's lead-in behind crack colts Squamosa and Masquerader.

"It's been a day to savour for Testa Rossa and an ominous pointer as we head into the spring carnivals in Sydney and Melbourne,'' Vinery's Conor Phelan said.
"Testa Rossa ended last season in sixth position on the General Sire's list, he stands every chance of bettering that this season with a large number of high quality younger stock coming through.''

SKATEBOARD ON A ROLL

EXCITING Dubleo gelding Skateboard made light work of his rivals in yesterday's final event at Canberra to post his third win from four outings.

The Guy Walter-trained four-year-old carried topweight of 60.5kgs and started with only one horse outside him in the 1280m Benchmark 60 Handicap drawing on to a 0.8-lens win at the prohibitive odds of $1.35.

Skateboard won his debut by 7-lens at the nearby Goulburn racecourse before winning impressively at Hawkesbury in a Class One two weeks after.
The horse's only defeat came at Warwick Farm on heavy (9) where he fought on doggedly to finish just 0.5L off the winner in fourth.

''Guy Walter is famous for taking horses through their grades but one would imagine it won't be long before Skateboard returns to the city,'' Vinery's Conor Phelan said.
''Like Dubleanny and many other first crop Dubleo's, he looks to have a very bright future.''

BUFFERING UP AND COMING TO SYDNEY

MOSSMAN galloper Buffering will pit his talents against some of the nation's best three-year-olds in the Group Three AJC Up and Coming Stakes (1200m) in Sydney on Saturday week after a comprehensive win at Eagle Farm yesterday.

The crack Queenslander was first-up carrying topweight of 59.5kgs on the heavy track yet still managed to lead from start to finish holding a comfortable 1.3-lens gap on his rivals.
It was Buffering's fifth win in six starts.
The Robert Heathcote-trained gelding was third behind Pressday in the Group Two BRC Champagne Stakes (1200m) prior to his let-up.
''I was reluctant to start him with 59.5 kilos on a heavy track first-up but in the end I had no alternative,'' Heathcote said.

''But it helps when you have a rider like Glen Colless on them.

''It was a big ask for him to carry that weight first-up and any horse who can do it must be above average.

''He'll go down now and run in the Up And Coming Stakes and the series of races for three-year-olds.''

Heathcote refused to rule out extending Buffering's spring campaign to Melbourne for a possible tilt at the Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on Derby Day, October 30.

Talented 3yo, From London heads an emerging group of talented Testa Rossa youngster's aimed at Group 1 glory this Spring.

Six times Group One winner and multiple Group One sire Testa Rossa enjoyed a stellar 2009/10 finishing sixth on the general sires rankings. Ranked even higher by winners, Testa Rossa is surely one of the most consistent and sire's in the Southern Hemisphere.

Represented by two new Gr.1 winners in 09/10, Testa Rossa's performance and continued popularity saw his fee buck the market downturn and marginally increase to $44,000 inc GST this year. Despite the increase, Testa Rossa is still the only Top Ten stallion under $50,000 and subsequently his book will be as strong as ever with arguably his best crops still to race.

As always, Testa Rossa has a vast team of quality young horses spread across the racing divide including the Cox Plate nominated and Patinack owned 3YO, From London.

The John Singleton bred From London is a combination of the first and second placegetters in the 1999 Magic Millions 2YO Classic where Testa Rossa beat Sally Magic by over four lengths.

From London broke his maiden at the Gold Coast during the winter before running an eye-catching fifth in the Listed BRC Australia Post (1400m) at Eagle Farm.

From London is among the entries for Saturday's Group Three STC Run to the Rose (1300m) at Rosehill Gardens and joins the likes of Sienna Red, Red Colossus et al as likely star's for their sire this season.

MORE JOYOUS, MORE STRAWBERRIES, RUN FOR NAARA. . .

Several More Than Ready progeny are about to open their Spring Carnival campaigns led by one of the nation's premier 3YO filly's of last season, More Joyous.

The Gai Waterhouse trained star was a dominant force within her age group in 2009/10. Restricted to only five starts for the entire season, More Joyous won the Group One AJC Flight Stakes as well as the Group Two treble of the Tea Rose, Light Fingers and Surround Stakes.

Not raced since winning the Surround Gr.2 in March, the writing is already on the wall as More Joyous scored a brilliant trial win at Randwick on August 6 defeating stablemate Rock Kingdom and reigning Australian Guineas winner Rock Classic.

Waterhouse has indicated More Joyous will be ready to resume racing in either the Group Three Tramway Handicap (1400m) at Randwick on September 4 or the Group Two Theo Marks Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill a week later.

Meanwhile, the unbreakable Waterhouse/John Singleton partnership have another of the More Than Ready offspring to stake a claim to More Joyous' vacant 3YO filly's crown in the shape of More Strawberries.

The lightly-raced filly finished a gallant third in the Golden Slipper Stakes in the autumn at only her third career start.

More Strawberries has since placed in her two barrier trials, both at Warwick Farm, signalling a bold return is on the cards.

With Merger Benefits and April in Venice also winning Randwick trials for More Than Ready and the likes of Run For Naara, More Than Great, Brightexpectations, Butt I'm Ready, set to return the future looks very bright for the son of Southern Halo.

CONQUER HE DID

BOOM colt Love Conquers All passed his first weight-for-age test with flying colours easily accounting for triple Group One winner Danleigh in yesterday's AJC Missile Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick.

The John Hawkes-trained 3YO was able to outsprint Danleigh coasting down to the line with a margin of 1 1/2 lens with another triple Group One winner, Sniper's Bullet, 2-lens back in third.

Winning rider Jim Cassidy heaped praise on Love Conquers All after the effort labelling him as "the real deal''.

"This horse is a future Group One winner if ever I've seen one,'' the Pumper declared.
"He's gone to that next level today and beaten two really good horses in Danleigh and Sniper's Bullet.

Team Hawkes were understandably jubilant after Love Conquers All's win, the sixth from nine career starts in his burgeoning career.

"He's one of the best up and comers I've seen in a while,'' co-trainer Michael Hawkes said.
"But today was the acid test. He had to show he was up to weight for age level and he did that. He's such an impressive horse because you can put him anywhere in a race.
"He's very genuine and still improving. We think he will get up to a mile because of his ability to relax in his races.''

HOOFNOTE: Love Conquers All is the highest priced Mossman yearling sold at auction so far knocked down for $400,000 to John Hawkes on behalf of prominent owner Nick Moraitis. Love Conquers All is from the first substantial Hunter Valley crop of Mossman who has always been a consistent producers of quality Stakes winners.

IRON HORSE MOSSURMI WINS CUP

THE outside alley in a capacity field of 16 still wasn't enough to prevent iron horse Mossurmi from delivering connections a ninth career win in yesterday's Coff's Harbour Cup (1600m).

Mossurmi started $4.60 equal favourite in the wake of his unlucky half-length second at Rosehill over 2000m eights day before.

The Marc Conners-trained 6YO thrives on the 'back-up', in fact he collected the Nowra Cup and a Warwick Farm R0-81 just two days apart.
Mossurmi's latest triumph edges his earnings closer to the $300,000 mark.

"He is a grand campaigner,'' Vinery's Conor Phelan declared.
"He'll be having his 50th start next time he races and if he wins, it'll be win number 10 - and he's been placed 11 times too.
"The Mossman's are a tough breed and there is no doubt that Mossurmi, like Prince Braeman, like Neeson etc, is one of the best examples. He's probably at his best on a back-up and always gives all no matter what distance he races at.''

Marc Conners can lay claim to having intimate knowledge of Mossurmi's sire, Mossman, having worked as foreman for his father Clarry when Mossman was racing.

BENICIO ALREADY HAS 3YO WINNER

BENICIO gelding, Larry's Ready kicked off the new season on the best possible note for his Classic winning sire with a sterling come from behind win in today's opening event.

The Neil Godbolt trained 3yo gave his rivals a headstart before handing them a comphrehensive beating in the Westlawn Finance Handicap (1200m) at Coff's Harbour.

"Larry's Raedy missed the start by about two-lenghts and was still about that far behind the second last horse around the turn but once he balanced, the race was over very quickly and he cleared out to win by over a length," Vinery's Conor Phelan explained.
"He won his maiden by over six-lengths as a juvenile so obviously he's a pretty smart horse and like his sire has a very bright future as he has come back in great order"

Benicio won as a 2YO by 4-lens before training on soon after to win the Group One VRC Derby.

"We have always expected that Benicio's progeny would excel as 3YO's and it's a most encouraging sign that horses like Larry's Ready can carry their form over from their 2YO campaign into the new season. I think you'll see a few more, such as John O'Shea's Private Label and Mick Price's Cuban Sunday, do that in 2010/11.''

MORE SUCCESS FOR MORE THAN READY SON'S

MORE Than Ready's Group One winning son, Perfectly Ready has wasted no time asserting himself as a potential leading first season sire after one of his debut crop scored an impressive win in the first 2YO barrier trial held in the Southern Hemisphere.

Perfectly Ready stands at Nick and Anne-Marie King's Brighthill Farm in New Zealand which sold Tuesday's 2yo heat winner, an unnamed gelding out of the Straight Strike mare Isodora, for $38,000 at the 2010 NZB Select Sale at Karaka in the summer.

Trained by Tony Mambry, the youngster proved too strong for his rivals to take the 600m heat at Waverley racecourse.

"It's early days yet of course but it is a positive start for the stallion to see his progeny up and going this early in the season,'' Vinery Stud's Adam White said.
"Perfectly Ready was a grand 2Y0 himself placing in the Blue Diamond and we know what More Than Ready's two-year-olds are capable off.''

Perfectly Ready's first crop was exceptionally well received in New Zealand during the three-legs of the New Zealand Bloodstock National Sales series at Karaka this year selling for up to $290,000.
Perfectly Ready was the leading first-season sire during the Premier session of the National series boasting an average of $150,000.

He represents a growing number of More Than Ready sons at stud in the Southern Hemisphere including classic winner Benicio who stands at Vinery Stud at Scone.

"Given the quality of mare that More Than Ready has covered in recent years, it's logical to expect that we'll see more of his sons at stud in coming years,'' says White.

"The early success of Benicio and the potential of Perfectly Ready certainly indicate that More Than Ready's influence on Australian breeding will not be limited to his progeny's success on the racetrack."

BIG BROWN & FOALS ON TVN

Tonight's season return of TVN's Thoroughbred's programme at 7.30pm is the first opportunity to see Big Brown and inspect his first crop foals.

Thoroughbred's host, Caroline Searcy took the time to visit Big Brown at Three Chimney's in Kentucky and film his Northern Hemisphere foals. The feature story will be broadcast this evening.

Big Brown has arrived safely in Quarantine and is scheduled to arrive in Sydney on August 15 before making the last leg of the trip to Vinery ready for inspections and our Open Days.

Please tune in to inspect his first foals this evening,

TVN's Thoroughbreds: tonight at 7.30 pm

BENICIO'S PRIVATE LABEL ONE TO SAVOUR

Benicio gelding Private Label produced an explosive turn of foot inside the final furlong to record a comfortable win in today's Glen Alpine 2yo Handicap (1400m) at Warwick Farm despite the wet conditions and heavy track.

The John O'Shea trained gelding was well supported following an eye catching half head second at Cessnock over 1150m earlier in the month and didn't disappoint providing yet another 2yo winner for his sire.

A first crop son of Vinery stallion Benicio, today was Private Label's third start and first time over 1400m and it seems he may only get better the more he races.
"It was a very good win and he'll obviously appreciate a little bit further. He's by a Derby winner, he'll even run beyond the 1400m" Trainer John O'Shea told TVN, "I think he'll probably run 2000m and if they can do that it opens a lot of avenues for them."

A Derby winning 3yo, Benicio's first crop are coming of age with Private Label the latest juvenile winner for the son of More Than Ready. Benicio has already tasted early Metropolitan 2yo success with Bernadecio and his first crop give every impression of improving further as 3yo's.

His dam, Centrefold Spread, was a handy race mare whose career highlight came when second in the AJC Silver Shadow Gr.2 at Randwick splitting Angst and Bint Marscay. Centrefold Spread has produced nine foals to race for eight winners with Private Label potentially the best of her progeny.

The mare subsequently returned to Benicio in 2008 and produced a yearling full brother to Private Label which sold for $27,500 at this years inglis Classic Sale. Those that watched today's win by Private Label may well consider that a very astute purchase.
